Response to “Shrek: Parody or Form of Retaliation”
Dream Work’s Shrek reveals a creative form of retaliation inside though it’s a comic story. The producer of
it is Jeffrey Katzenberg who was once employed by Disney. He helped create many
successful films which promoted Disney. However, once Disney’s chairman Eisner insulted him and promoted his friend to president. He
felt angry and left Disney. He quickly created Dream Works, so there is a
tension between Dream Works and Disney. Not long later, Dream Works starts to
find a new road—parody. Through his efforts, now Katzenberg puts out
blockbuster after blockbuster, while Eisner has to struggle to support Disney.
From my perspective, actually parody is
easy to make people amuse and attracts people’s attention. Ktzenberg chooses a creative idea to use in the film. It
proves that he is very creative and smart enough to succeed. What I learn is
that looking for business opportunity is important. We shouldn’t merely stay in our position, in the meanwhile, we should look for our
advantages to develop. When we don’t like our profession in the future, we should utilize
our advantages to find the profession we like and make full use of it.
